The Paul Scherrer Institute PSI is the largest research institute for natural and engineering sciences within Switzerland. We perform cutting-edge research in the fields of future technologies, energy and climate, health innovation and fundamentals of nature. By performing fundamental and applied research, we work on sustainable solutions for major challenges facing society, science and economy. PSI is committed to the training of future generations. • PhD Thesis in Materials Science
• Perform in situ/operando neutron and synchrotron X-ray diffraction and imaging during selective laser melting of high nitrogen steels
• Support with the implementation of a beam shaping system for the additive manufacturing devices at PSI
• Sample characterization with electron microscopy and mechanical testing
• Write and publish scientific articles and present your work at scientific workshops and conferences
• Collaborate actively in group and with project partners

• Master’s degree in material physics, materials science, mechanical engineering or related fields
• You are interested in experimental work, highly motivated and have excellent communication skills
• Excellent command in English is required
• Experience with metal additive manufacturing is an asset
• Experience in neutron/X-ray diffraction/imaging techniques is an asset
• Programming skills are an asset
