The Position

Investigating receptor transcytosis dynamics across the blood-brain barrier in vivo - PhD Internship / RiSE - (12 months)

Join the Neuroscience and Rare Diseases Discovery team at Roche to help develop treatments for serious neurological conditions like Parkinson's, Alzheimer's, and more.

As a RiSE student you will join the Brain Delivery and the In vivo Sciences groups and perform experimental work to image and monitor the dynamics of receptor-mediated transcytosis across the blood-brain barrier in vivo. In this highly collaborative project, you will have the opportunity to develop innovative methods and will be mentored by an interdisciplinary group of experienced scientists.

During the internship your tasks will include:

• Design, execute and analyze rodent experiments to quantify antibody transcytosis across the blood-brain barrier using in vivo imaging
• Perform histology and microscopy analysis to evaluate compound biodistribution
• Coordinate collaborations with scientists from other research groups to generate impactful data
• Organize and critically present your data at internal meetings

Who You Are

Moreover you are/have:

• Enrolled in a life science PhD at a university and are looking to expand your experience with an industry internship (must be enrolled at university for 50% of the duration of your stay at Roche, PhD thesis can't be defended in the first half of the internship). Applications from individuals not enrolled in a PhD or medical degree program will not be considered.
• Extensive expertise in rodent handling and compound administration. FELASA certification (function A) is mandatory for the position. Experience with animal imaging is a plus.
• Experience with histology and fluorescence microscopy techniques
• Experience with standard biochemical assays
• Curious to develop and optimize novel methods to inform new biological discoveries
• Strong team player with excellent collaboration skills

The earliest start date of the internship is April 2025 or upon availability.
