Position Overview

The Systems Hardware Intern, with guidance from more experienced engineers, assists in the design, development, and testing of mechanical assemblies used in automation of medical devices. Working with a mentor, the Systems Hardware Engineering intern will primarily be involved in Systems Development projects assisting in the development of automation hardware. This position is intended to be a full-time opportunity for an undergraduate to obtain engineering experience in an industry setting.

Essential Duties

Include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Learn about the aspects of the development lifecycle for a medical device.
  • Assist in the implementation of hardware specifications.
  • Assist in the improvement and testing of hardware designs.
  • Assist with troubleshooting of system issues.
  • Design mechanical assemblies using CAD.
  • Assemble and test mechanical assemblies.
  • Understand architectures of automated systems.
  • Learn proper documentation techniques for hardware design using generally accepted notation (i.e. UML).
  • Research, investigate and fix a wide range of technical issues.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment within a team.
  • Apply professional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Support and comply with the company’s Quality Management System policies and procedures.
  • Regular and reliable attendance.
  • Uphold company mission and values through accountability, innovation, integrity, quality, and teamwork.
  • Ability to act with an inclusion mindset and model these behaviors for the organization.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a bachelor’s degree program in mechanical engineering or a similar field.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in CAD and mechanical design outside the classroom (projects, student organizations, etc.)
  • Relevant coursework in engineering and mechanical engineering concepts.
  • Preference giving to candidates with a record of outstanding academic achievement.
  • Authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship.
