Jobbeschreibung
Are you interested in fundamental aspects about the formation of functional nanoparticles and in new microscopy modalities to track individual atoms while they form such quantum dots? As a PhD candidate, you will explore the atomic-scale particle formation processes by means of in situ experiments performed on an aberration-corrected microscope. Based on the knowledge gained, you will develop new approaches for efficient, well-controllable synthesis routes for metallic nanoparticles and complex quantum dots. Since the ionic liquids are, apart from their outstanding properties as solvents, also useful for reaching high resolution in LP-STEM, you will identify such liquids that are optimal for both aspects. Therefore, you will not only be responsible for elaborating new custom-tailored synthesis strategies, but also for applying and further developing cutting-edge LP-STEM methods.
We are looking for a highly motivated, ambitious and proactive candidate who is excited to pursue her/his own PhD project with a high level of commitment.
Required qualifications include a Master's degree in materials science, chemistry, physics or a related discipline. Basic experience in (scanning) transmission electron microscopy and nanoparticle synthesis are advantageous but not strictly required. We are looking for an open-minded and communicative candidate with excellent English skills.
We look forward to receiving your complete online application including a letter of motivation, CV, certificates, diplomas and contact details of two reference persons. Please submit these exclusively via our job portal. Applications by e-mail and by post will not be considered.
